Free Hosting Tips

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

Hey, we’re back. Sorry for the downtime as said in my previous post.

I really hate downtime more than you. In fact, you probably didn’t really care. In all real matters though, today I will discuss web hosting, or more specifically free web hosting.

Here’s the gist: There are thousands (if not millions) of free web hosts. Only a select few of those [insert numerical value here] are anything worth your time. Free hosts boast unimaginable features. In my awesome experience, I have picked up a few worth it, along with a few tips. I’ll give you the tips first; remember, dessert comes after the healthy stuff.

Tip 1: If it sounds to good to be true, it is.

I know this is chiched, but in any case, this is usually true.

50 GB of Web Space! UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH!!! SIGN UP NOW!!!

Okay, realistically you don’t need much at all. This blog only takes up around 30-40 Megabytes, maybe less. I’d say you’re safe at up to 2 gigabytes; be cautious at up to 8; anything higher is DANGER ZONE! dun dun dun… Also, stay away from anything unlimited, except mysql maybe, which brings me to tip number two.

Tip 2: Unlimited = Unreliable

It’s simple. The same old too good to be true story. Can you fit unlimited shrimp in your mouth? Marshmellows? Exactly. There is nothing unlimited. Period.

Tip 3: It takes time to become reliable.

This is also simple. If the host is a day old, it may not be reliable, in fact, it may be just a quick get rich and sell like alot of free hosts. I’d query a WHOIS database to see how old the domain is. Try at least six months.

Tip 4: If it looks horrible, don’t use it!

Use common sense. Good luck.

I have a few hosts you might want to use.

110mb.com
FreeHostia.com
AwardSpace.com
Trap17.com

Have fun with it!
